Design Inbetweener

Well, I have finished my university studies and now I’ll begin the search to find a job as a Junior Designer. I was aware that I would feel free after completing my studies but wasn’t prepared for how scared I would be whilst trying to find a career in design.

I have heard that it is easy to get yourself down when being unsuccessful with job applications and there is so much competition in the design industry for graduates. Considering this though, I won’t give up, I will continue to search and apply for as long as it takes.

Personal Manifesto

For one of my final university modules, I designed my own manifesto poster which contained a list of short phrases about how to have confidence in your own work as a junior designer. I was initially unsure of how the approach the poster design, but after taking inspiration from many existing designs, I felt that my manifesto would stand out and be eye catching if it were created using a western poster style. This style of poster grabs the attention of a passer-by and for a designer is the perfect style to show off the knowledge you have learnt.

As I was using a western style, I wanted to include all of the key elements that are contained within this type of design; I was able to use a variety of appropriate fonts aswell as a bold but welcoming colour palette. I also incorporated small icons including stars and pointing fingers which I had previously seen on these poster designs.

The final poster is eye catching and reflects what my key focuses are as a designer. As it is a personal piece I want it to show my own abilities as a designer aswell as being visually appealing to an audience to look at and engage with.

I welcome your comments.

Influencer Posters on the Behance Network

Influencer Posters on the Behance Network.

Subsequent to watching a documentary about influencers, I created two A3 posters based on two of my own influencers in the media today, Gok Wan and Pink. I traced images of the celebrities in Adobe Illustrator and added a quote from each which represented why they influenced me. Initially I intended these posters to be created in Illustrator alone but felt that I could bring across more personality by screen printing the designs.

‘Launch’ Exhibition Poster Design

As my undergraduate exhibition is drawing closer, we have all been designing promotional posters to make people aware of the event. This is the poster that I have put forward. Our exhibition is named ‘Launch’ which is why the word dominates the design and I have used the words – plan, design, launch – to indicate how we have prepared ourselves for the design industry.
