Design Inbetweener

Well, I have finished my university studies and now I’ll begin the search to find a job as a Junior Designer. I was aware that I would feel free after completing my studies but wasn’t prepared for how scared I would be whilst trying to find a career in design.

I have heard that it is easy to get yourself down when being unsuccessful with job applications and there is so much competition in the design industry for graduates. Considering this though, I won’t give up, I will continue to search and apply for as long as it takes.

Object Story Film Screening, Birmingham

“OBJECT STORY”…

Film Screening
The Custard Factory Theatre Birmingham will be the venue for a screening of one minute shorts by visual communication students on Thursday March 22nd. The programme contains an eclectic mix of interpretations, some taking a sideways look at object language and the experience of living in the material culture of everyday life.

Different ideas and approaches include; Daniel Partons Docile Objects where the lens reconsiders the domestic functionality of everyday life, Raymond Chans Portland Vase Project where the camera is window on a 400 year heritage of glassmaking; Lathe Story recorded in her grandfathers workshop reveals to Lorraine Bennett a language of confident direction in the transfer of his object skills; Alice Whyley’s Recollection uses the champagne cork as trigger for a narrative on tragedy and loss, whilst Rebecca Hards employs audio and animated typography in Sentimental Value to convey how the photograph connects and reconnects us with family history.
‘Object Story’ screening starts at 7.00 pm on Thursday March 22nd in the Custard Factory Theatre Gibb Street Digbeth Birmingham B9 4AA

Receiving one of these ‘Thank You’ cards would definitely encourage me to design and send them out myself. Beautiful sentiments.

Design Manifesto

Image

I have been taking inspiration for my own manifesto from this thoughtful and realistic reflection of what designers are. I want my manifesto to include genuine statements that designers can relate to aswell as being quirky and visually aesthetically pleasing.

Interesting typographic take on stamp designs. They are miniature pieces of artwork and are not always given the credit that they deserve.

The Milk Man

There’s something quite nice about still seeing a single milk bottle on a doorstep today. With the trade dying out and the majority of society buying their milk from other sources such as supermarkets, there are still selected people who enjoy having their milk delivered onto their doorstep.

Eat Me: Appetite For Design (Creative Review)

“Eat Me is chock-full of inventive food packaging projects, elegant restaurant identities and interiors, and food-based art projects. It’s even designed to look like a layered wafer biscuit”

This tactile and imaginative book is a must-have for all you creative thinking people out there. Focused around types of packaging, the book aims to inspire with its less than average ideas around packaging design. A measly £32.78 on Amazon 🙂
